” I am the changemaker, If everyone in this world and this country(India) thinks that s/he is a changemaker then this world problems could be solved” said Ashok Rathod one the Real Heroes on CNN IBN.
Its 3:20 AM and I just finished watching a full episode of “Real Heroes” on CNN IBN sponsored by Reliance Industries. You can watch the entire show by visiting this link
IBN is an Indian Channel in partnership with CNN which showcased some real talent from different parts of the Country. People who have worked not for themselves, money, fame, publicity, their family but for their family. The latter family is the entire mankind which they consider as their first one. Ashok Rathod hails from City of Mumbai, lives in Slums, teaches or coaches football to youth of his age and helps them educate. His feels that he could prevent youth from resorting to drugs and other activites.
Sponsored by Reliance Industries lmtd, one of the India’s largest conglomerates, headed by Shri Mukesh Ambani, Real Heroes is a real eye opener to everyone of us. We always or most of the times see things from a different lens. We keep money, self, as our first priority and then do work. The people honored on this show have worked for mankind considering everyone as equal.
I truly appreciate the efforts of IBN and Reliance in bring this talent to a platform which can not only inspire but also respire. I urge you all to please please watch the show to bring in some faith in mankind and humanity. I don’t say we should start doing similar things. But from this show I can gaurantee that it will install that faith, that hope, that needed urge within you to do something that is greater than everything. You will work with more faith and more hard work in what you do may be it studying subjects, find a job, work on projects, etc.
I realized that criticizing is easy but taking responsibility to make the necessary change is a challenge. “What do you think does woman wear when she is in her menstrual cycle for those 4 to 5 days? Those Women in this country who do not have clothes to wear use dirty clothes, newspapers, mud, plastics, even share cloth with another family member. A woman died because she used her blouse during her periods due to infection” said Anshu Gupta, a Real Hero who recyled used cloth and provided free napkins to many women and girls in India.
We should all grow up and start working for a greater cause with much more dedication and hardwork. We should cross out money from our to do list. Never ever money is a problem for those who really want to do something.
Opportunities are made and not sort after. I don’t care about my english if I am able to convey my message to you and that what matters at the end of the day.
I dont care if you are an engineer, scientist, doctor, nurse, housewife, businessman, a pharmacist, an architect, or a simple humble person. But I do care that you find your true inner voice to do something of value. Search for your inner voice that will guide you through your goals be it getting a degree, or raise kids, or do research, or run your business. If you keep money at the last then you will get unprecedented success and wealth. Money will always follow wealth.
Chinese milk scam, another controversy, a another scam, or corpo-political drama is about to end.
Yes with me again and again pressing over the issue of chinese milk scam might seem to be boring. But is it not this story going the same way as it was intended to be. Lets get the big picture clear of what I am trying to say.
On december 11, chinese government said that they were “considering” to give a kind of compensation to the families whose kids died or were sickened due to tainted milk formula which contained toxic chemical named melamine. Its ridiculous when I read that they were considering still not sure about giving a compensation. How mean is it.
Above all the corpo-political drama, the word which I came up with because it seems to me a collaboration between corporations and government, is above to surpass previous records. Remember about 300,000 infants and children including 6 died were affected by the melamine content. Now when families of thousands of kids are trying to press on courts to take the case of these corporates, then these courts arent ready to take the case.
Anyone who reads this can clearly understand the close ties of corporations and government who rnt willing to accept their mistakes. Still the so loved mighty money will prevent the families get justice for what they had suffered and even lost their kids.
On december 11, yes the same day “The Human Rights Declaration” marked its 60th anniversary. Hello United Nations if your listening cant you see what all is happening? If you are talking about giving equal rights to every individual then I guess you should not leave out these thousands of families getting atleast a fair trial. I dont even say that they must be punished lets leave on the courts but atleast gaurantee a free trial.
For common people there is no voice, no voice heard, no actions taken for them, common people no matter where u take I have one thing to say “Be prepared to get tough, to take on the suffering untill utlimate destruction comes”.
Open up your eyes UN and stand up on ur own feet rather than walking with a US stick.
I would like to share this video which tells us about “THE UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS”. The video is so beautifully animated will caputure your imagination and heart.
I liked the creativity used to present the concept which lacks luster. Such concepts are useful in grabbing people’s attention towards a cause, a cause that is larger than life.
“The world is not perfect”
“But we can get it closer”
I am overwhelmed by people who are taking interest in reading my blog. It makes me feel, that I have ignited a spark in minds of people. Many of you as reading this post will be interested in if m&m candies contain melamine or not? As far as my knowledge there are not such news of m&m containing melamine. There were instances of Oreo cookies containing melamine but those products were also pulled of from the stores. We should congratulate media and all such blogs who have contributed in creating awareness and knock some senses into minds of chinese officials, who have reacted and imposed strict rules as of now.
The U.S. Food and drug administration have revealed permissible level of melamine in food products not harmful to human beings. But in case of Infant “No amount of melamine is safe”, as we dont know sufficient information. FDA has announced that below 2.5 parts per million is risk free. So chinese officials now have imposed restrictions on permissible levels of melamine food products.
Before restrictions were imposed chinese milk products had 500 parts per million of melamine content in them. The White Rabbit Creamery Candy recalled in California for melamine contained levels of 500 parts per million. On 26th September FDA found products containing melmine in U.S. and recalled seven products. Mr. Brown coffee had been supplied by a Taiwanese company had content of melamine. All these Brown coffees were banned. This information is provided by FDA and more can be found via their website
Mr. Brown Mandheling Blend Instant Coffee (3-in-1)
Mr. Brown Arabica Instant Coffee (3-in-1)
Mr. Brown Blue Mountain Blend Instant Coffee (3-in-1)
Mr. Brown Caramel Macchiato Instant Coffee (3-in-1)
Mr. Brown French Vanilla Instant Coffee (3-in-1)
Mr. Brown Mandhling Blend instant Coffee (2-in-1)
Mr. Brown Milk Tea (3-in-1)
As of now Chinese officials might have reacted to bring melamine down in food products or news products we dont know any of it. Atleast we can assume that infants infected and hospitalized are being taken care off.
I would like to share this article featured on Associated press.
10/08/08
BEIJING (AFP) – China insisted on Wednesday that it was being open about the impact of milk tainted with the toxic chemical melamine, but declined to make public the latest data on how many children had fallen ill.
As the World Health Organisation issued a statement stressing the need to share health information in a timely manner, Chinese officials said they were not yet ready to reveal any updated figures.
“I have not been authorised today to make announcements about the number of sick children,” health ministry spokesman Deng Haihua told a briefing on the government’s latest efforts to contain the scandal.
Data that have not been updated since September 22 show melamine-tainted milk has killed four children in China and sickened 53,000, triggering an alert that has seen many countries and suppliers around the world curb or restrict Chinese dairy imports.
These figures have now been overtaken by new national data, health ministry officials admitted this week — while insisting they were not ready to share them with the public.
Deng defended the ministry’s approach, arguing it had been forthcoming so far.
“Since the Sanlu baby formula case emerged, the health ministry has on four occasions announced the number of children affected by the problem milk,” he said, referring to Sanlu Group, the company at the centre of the scandal.
He said the new figure would be made public “at an appropriate time.”
In its statement, the WHO noted that on public health issues, “the prompt sharing of information is important.”
“China continues to handle the care of these infants and the safety of the food supply in an appropriate and diligent fashion. We would expect that in due course, Chinese officials will release the relevant figures into the public record,” it said.
Hans Troedsson, the WHO’s representative in China who frequently meets with local authorities, said the health ministry had not yet passed on new numbers — but that the UN body had not asked for them either.
“I don’t know the reason why they don’t want to do it. I don’t see why they couldn’t share it,” he told AFP.
“But to be honest, I don’t know the reason why they don’t share it, because it hasn’t been discussed with them.”
“We will of course ask for the number and also if they don’t want to go public with it, we will also ask them why, but we will of course respect that if they have a good justification,” he added.
He said authorities might have good reasons to keep figures to themselves if, for instance, they are not yet verified.
Separately, China announced limits for how much melamine its dairy products can contain, setting the maximum at one milligram per kilogram of baby formula and 2.5 milligrams per kilogram for other dairy products.
“Melamine is not a food raw material, and it’s also not a food additive,” said Wang Xuening, deputy director general of the health ministry’s health supervision bureau.
“We prohibit people adding it to food items. Cases where melamine has been added to food will be investigated according to law,” he told a briefing in Beijing.
Melamine is an industrial chemical used for producing plastic, but when added to milk, it makes it look richer in protein than it really is.
Officials at the briefing did not say directly how the new legally allowed amount of melamine may come to be in the dairy products.
But Chen Junshi, a senior researcher at the National Institute for Nutrition and Food Safety, pointed out that the chemical was often used in packaging used for food products.
China’s product quality watchdog Wednesday published the findings of a new check of milk powder products, saying it had found no traces of melamine, the China News Service reported.
A total of 219 batches of baby formula were inspected along with 97 batches of other types of milk powder, according to the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
The fallout of the milk scandal has continued to spread, with Brazil on Tuesday becoming the most recent country to react, banning imports from China of food products containing lactose or milk.
And officials in the Philippines on Wednesday said a third Chinese-made milk product sold there had tested positive for melamine, and ordered it off store shelves.
Today I have issues to focus on milk and melamine. With milk a problem is within us and with melamine is the issue of ethics and morality.
“What I am doing right now?” Perhaps this thought might have not come to minds of those people while injecting melamine, a toxic nitrogenous rich chemical substance, which is harmful to human beings and leads to development of kidney stone. They didn’t realize at that time that they are injecting poison into young children who have just stepped into this beautiful world. I am very disturbed after closely following China’s milk scandal which has left thousands of children infected with tainted milk formula. Approximately 54,000(perhaps it could be more as you can t rely on China when it has such media restrictions and solid control) children have been infected and four infants dead, as result of the toxic melamine.
What is milk? Why do we drink milk?
It might seem this question to you rather a stupid one but that is the way you ask yourself as you try to solve problems. Ask basic questions and solve problems. Well I will answer the question first and then confront you with the problem we have.
Milk is an emulsion or colloid of butterfat globules within a water-based fluid. The fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K are found within the milkfat portion of the milk. I like chocolate milk and honey bunch of oats cereals as morning breakfast.
* Biotin and pantothenic acid are B vitamins important for energy production.
* Iodine is a mineral essential for thyroid function.
* Potassium and magnesium are for cardiovascular health.
* Selenium is a cancer-preventive trace mineral.
* Thiamine is a B-vitamin important for cognitive function, especially memory.
* Vitamin A is critical for immune function.
* Vitamin B12 and riboflavin are necessary for cardiovascular health and energy production.
* Vitamins D and K are essential for bone health.
Human milk contains, on average, 1.1% protein, 4.2% fat, 7.0% lactose (a sugar), and supplies 72 kcal of energy per 100 grams. Apparently from china’s milk scandal and we now know the problem that, there is a decline in the number of children that are breastfed over past. 80% of children hospitalized were 2 year old or younger. Otherwise the number of infected children in china could have been lowered if the infant were breastfed. I remember that while I was in school, may be in 4th or 5th grade, number of commercials on television on breastfeeding were quite significant, as of now we hardly we see any of those commercials. Furthermore, early lactation milk is known as colostrum, and carries the mother’s antibodies to the baby. It can reduce the risk of many diseases in the baby.
So whats going on ? Clearly corporate giants would not like if their packaged milk(milk&melamine) products are not consumed over mother’s milk. They can also prove that packaged milk is far better than mother’s milk to raise their sales. What an achievement for them. I am saying this in order to urge more and more children should be breastfed. As of now I consider my article to be an advertisement to promote breastfeeding, which can also alleviate risk of breast cancer.
We all know that life is fast and very fast, we don’t want to waste time. We want to do it quickly and effectively. We think that we are smart when we save time, save money, save energy, save our mind from thinking. Corporations take this common mind set of people for granted and slashes media with those advertisements. Finally we are changing our habits to fill their pockets with dollar bills. So don’t get captivated when you see such commercials about cheaper and time saving ads of products. Hence our mind set has resulted into resorting to those packaged milk, milk products and powdered milk.
What is Melamine and why is it in milk?
Well the first part of the question can be easily answered but second one is not as easy. Melamine is an organic base and a trimer of cyanamide, with a 1,3,5-triazine skeleton. Like cyanamide, it contains 66% nitrogen by mass and, if mixed with resins, has fire retardant properties due to its release of nitrogen gas when burned. Melamine is combined with formaldehyde to produce melamine resin, a very durable thermosetting plastic, and melamine foam, a polymeric cleaning product. The end products include countertops, dry erase boards, fabrics, glues, housewares and flame retardants. Melamine is one of the major components in Pigment Yellow 150, a colorant in inks and plastics.
Years before we had a small family furniture business, as we inherit carpentry as ancestral family occupation, but now no longer we do it. For polishing the finished product we used melamine polish to give a glossy touch. So while spraying you have cover nose else it can have harmful effects.
So why was melamine used in milk? It could be useful in many products but is it meant for humans? Certainly not, when incidents indicate Melamine leads to kidney stone and death of human beings. Melamine rich in nitrogen was used to enhance the protein content of food products and also in addition to protein in milk it can increase the whiteness. Melamine can also be used to cheat quality checks.
When you know importance of milk to human beings how could those do this inhuman activity of mixing toxics to milk? They don’t have any morals, ethics, responsibility or heart while doing these things.
Morals?
After seeing and reading dozens of news headlines we are aware of morality of white collars. I don’t criticize everyone but there are people who are doing this? These people don’t have a face because I believe there are hidden forces who are doing these, they don’t have heart because they do such inhuman activities, don’t have mind because they don’t think what is right and wrong and they don’t have a family because they don’t consider everyone as God’s own children.
China knew about harmful effects of melamine way before in 2007 but they didn’t take firm action. The governing body also relaxed rule as far as quality checks was concerned. Sanlu, china’s biggest dairy and at least six other companies on the list of 22 contaminated milk producers had been exempted from national quality checks. They were awarded “inspection-free” status. How could you bare companies from quality checks? After all companies are run by individuals and one can be good or even bad. It is not fair at all on part of china. WHO should pose ban on china’s products totally or at least urge china to have open up third party inspection on quality of products.
Before running into quality checks of products one should run a self check. Since we now feel that everyone is corrupt and now anything can happen, so what are we suppose to do. Perhaps do something to change the way people think. As I mention that all problems don’t generate in isolation, we too have equal responsibility and so we should examine ourselves too and do what is ethical. Those involved in scandals and we people should ourselves on issues of milk scandal, and breastfeeding, “What I have done?”
Where are we heading towards when it comes to staging Bigger, larger than life events like Olympics? What is our moral responsibility when we stage such events, which will have an everlasting impact on world? Who wins at the end of Olympics? Who is the ultimate sufferer?
With Beijing Olympics 2008 considered being the biggest in the history of Olympics, whether we consider its iconic stadiums creating a mark in every field from architecture to technology. On 08/08/08 People’s Republic of China created history and shattered all the records when the host country opened its doors to welcome Olympics with mindboggling performances and never seen before technology on opening ceremony. Amidst of all the controversies, related to Tibet, Human Rights and pollution, China successfully managed to host the summer Olympics 2008, scoring a gold.
On 12 MAY 2008, Earthquake of magnitude 7.9-ake struck 57 miles north-west of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province China, leaving 300,000 of people dead and many of them left homeless. Over 40 billions of dollars have been spent on the Olympics so far this year, when the population of china is 1 billion leaves us 40 dollars per person. When an average Chinese person strives on one dollar a day for his living, we question if this much of spending on Olympics is justified? Around the world, Earthquakes of such magnitude hit every year, claiming thousands of lives and leaving people homeless, without food and shelter. Is it in the very interest of government and corporations to undertake massive rehabilitation programmes?
In an online news website, it featured that Chinese officials have filled emply seats with volunteers to make events house full, during games and events which had few viewership. In the opening ceremony there were volunteers who packed the stadium to make the moment more fabulous. Why did China spent so much on Mega stadiums when they expected few people to attend the ceremony and events?. A fraction of that spending could have helped homeless people find lost peace, or improve their condition of life. Human rights and pollution in chinahave broke all the records, and it’s not worth a medal. People still don’t have permission to stage a protest and hold demonstrations. China may have claimed 51 gold medals in the Summer Olympics but it will take years for china to score a point as far as human rights are concerned. The people displaced due to earthquake, still have to strike a gold in their life to make a living. China has contributed significant amount of Co2 emissions after it started construction of stadiums and auditoriums. If we really care for environment then we should spend responsibly on constructing such mammoth structures. If we believe in equal opportunity then we should allow different developing countries to host Olympics.
Games
Doping
“I want to be Michael Phelps“, could be the statement of millions of young athletes seeking gold at the Olympics 2012 to be held in London. In a survey, about 61% of people who consume drugs are influenced by star athletes.
Its takes one’s hard work and a diligent effort on a regular basis to have a physique like Michael Phelps, USA who took 8 gold medals in swimming, beating Mark Spitz’s record of seven gold. Not only physique, which is frequently neglected by athletes who resort to performance enhancing drugs, but also it requires world class dedicated trainers and cutting edge technology to have that hundredth of a second advantage to the competitor. It couldn’t have been a better example of the 100m butterfly event in swimming where Michael Phelps won by hundredths of a second to Serbian Milorad Cavic.
Balance beam
Drug in sports is a pressuring issue confronting world today. National Pride can turn into Shame when athletes are tested positive of banned substance. It keeps fair athletes at disadvantage and make them feel biased when stimulant break world records.
There are always new drugs or chemical substance which are consumed by clever athletes and supported by coaches. Also athletes are trained on how to cheat the doping tests. These substances need to be banned in order to provide a fair ground for everyone to compete. In order to track these malpractices, Officials need to constantly revise testing procedures and play their roles at par to CIA. It’s a never ending game of cheats, hence officials will have to remain one step ahead to strike a balance. This youtube videos showcases how future super dope athletes will be.
For Sporting entities, its an issue of credibility, authenticity, competiveness, pride and last but not the least maintain revenues. When it comes to health, athletes have gone to an extent, leading to death and major side effects, sports federation should have had adopted a zero tolerance policy.
Over time
What role do media play in the overall scenario? Perhaps plays the biggest. Directly or indirectly media can be considered of being responsible for most of the young aspirants to resort to drugs. How?
Media does not explicitly motivates an individual to consume banned drugs. With each record broken, media slashes headlines again and again, and glorifies that moment exaggeratedly. Overtime these leaves an image in the minds of people, images of high expectation and high national pride. These images take center stage in the minds of athletes while they take part in events. Due to media attention Business associated with sports have started paying off high salaries and endorsements to Star athletes. Finally when confronted with physical limits, our young athletes are motivated to take drugs. After all we need to educate athletes that records can’t be broken overnight but over a period of time devoted hard work.
World
What Is World?
Beliefs and Values
First, of all I would like to make it clear by what Do I mean by “world” when I discuss these topics in a big context. Though I would not be able to do justice to the title, but still I try my best this time.
When I say world I say people, people who are highly influenced by news, sports, entertainment, business, politics, society and self. The world is represented by different types of people, with people comes their beliefs, their religion, their values, families, their social framework. World consists of monuments, buildings, oceans, land and atmosphere. Our world is not isolated from Ageing, it has an interesting history, dynamic present and Unpredictable future.
We have seen world through different eyes, while we were young we saw it through our mother. When we grew older, we understand things as per our beliefs and notions, friends, teachers, books, world started changing in our minds. Later on television, internet, radio, and satellite changed the whole world and its beliefs, and we were no exception.
From childhood to youth, to our present, we have believed everything to be true as we see and hear them. And as we grew older, we laugh at our past beliefs seriously. We laugh at our mother’s threat of being caught by serious eight feet monster when young. We laugh on those silly mistakes. Finally when we are old life laughs at us.
Happiness depends on ourselves -aristotle
Regulation
Finally, What I wanted to say is Everything what we believe is not wholly true at any point of time. Everything is not truly authentic and substantive. We are living in a world which is governed and regulated. Modern world is regulated. Whatever we do is governed and regulated by so called “white collar officials and organizations” around the world. And whatever we suffer is solely due to our beliefs, faiths, emotions, values and self pride.
Multibillion corporations, media conglomerates, financial entities, insurance corporations, retials corporations and oil corporations, have tremendous hand in policy making of national governments rather than common people. Agricultural land is owned by fewer and fewer people. These corporations can control anything(club visual effects with live event, fill empty seats with volunteers, buy votes to get tat last bid to host the games, play with human emotions) when it comes to making money. Only thing they cant do is how to solve world problems. They cannot alleviate world hunger problem. They cannot work in tandem to resolve civil war.
These corporations have full control over media, telecommunications, and legal rights. Olympics have proved that now live events too will be manipulated over media. Events will be made jam packed with audiences, in order to increase the rating of the show. These volunteers were not paid whereas corporate giants made millions of dollars on prime time. After the show is over, no one really cares. To what extent these organizations and top officials can go to host the event, to generate revenues, to generate viewership and to build national pride and honor.
Wrap Up
Who is the ultimate king when it comes to Olympics and Games? Who makes the money? Who wins at the end of the game? Who is morally responsible for all the world problems?
Olympics is a on the center stage of world, for few days for every political leader to showcase his/her political power. It’s the most profitable timeslot for media conglomerates available every four year. It is the most sought after event in the world. In games undoubtedly I would consider each and every athlete to be a king who participated with whole heartedly and fought their battles of lifetime. Undoubtedly, Every business associated with the Olympics has made mode beyond their calculations.
I am Mitul Suthar and I would like to give you a brief introduction about Who I am and what I am trying to communicate via my blog. Cutting it short, I was born and raised in Baroda city, State of Gujarat, India. After completing my bachelors of Engineering in Electronics and Communication, I came to United States of America to pursue Masters in Business Administration at University of Toledo, Ohio. I have chosen my field of specialization in Information systems.
“Well I got the idea of creating a blog as everyone around the world has entered Blogging age and I didn’t want to be left alone” Is certainly not the reason why I have decided to do so. I had this idea since my college days but I could not blog. Why?At that time I lacked persistence. So there are blogs about Travel, People, Places, Food and list goes on.But I wanted my blog should not only contain same old stuff but also it should be useful to people and create impact in their lives.I am a great fan of rock music and my favorite band is Linkin Park.Their recent hit features song “What I have done” and I would like to share the video.
People who are already in my friends list on facebook and orkut will be aware of this video. The video always leaves me spell bound and generates waves in my mind about different events that shake the world. So tat was my inspiration to write.
Through this blog:”What I have done?” I would like to focus my attention towards what mankind has done and how this has impacted lives of people around the world and our environment. Oh this seems to be a very bold statement from me, but I always and will try to gain from my experience and lovely people surrounding me every day. Hence I would try to keep up to my best. From invention to war, I will try to focus on some major questions which leave me in a dilemma of right and wrong.
There are many answers to end poverty in world, age old diseases, corruption, and illiteracy and so on. As the heading “It was not raining when Noah built the arch” suggests that we should think in advance about a calamity natural or manmade. We have created wonderful awareness through Internet, Social Organizations, Educational Institutions and people about Loving thy nature, God, people and our world. But there is still a gap, between people and their thoughts. So I would try to bridge that gap by not only generating awareness but also try to generate ideas how to solve problems?
I have left many questions and raised many expectations of my next blog, but I would certainly try my best to keep up. My foremost effort shall be to post regularly to create maximum awareness among every one of us.
Thank you everyone for reading my blog.
